Photography
I believe ropes have the power to create a temporal boundary, break time apart and hold us captive. Through photography, I try to reflect this element of Shibari, combining diverse materials and landscapes, all while focusing on the emotions of my subjects. My ultimate drive is to empower my models and to show them their beauty as otherworldly.
Performances
A ceremony, a story, a ritual —life itself is a performance. From traditional Shibari in a Japanese setting to intricate storytelling combining dance and new media. I get inspiration from mythology and ceremonial rebirths, guided by the ropes that play along as conductors. For me the only question is: how many lives can you experience?
Installations
Shimenawa is the name of the rope that is used in Japanese Shinto to demarcate sacred locations. I use ropes because I have witnessed how they can open a space within the space, a gate to a dimension hidden in front of us. In my art installations I try to conjure this power to show the captivating dichotomy of our world, seemingly illusory yet undeniably tangible.
